These systems bring together learning science, technology, and policy to study and improve how people learn. They also prepare leaders to design and manage learning systems at scale, ensuring education remains innovative, relevant, and accessible.     

They are designed to deliver content, but also to connect learning, applications, and outcomes in one ecosystem.

Learning Systems focuses on improving and creating opportunities to ensure that learning is more than available — it’s effective, relevant, and leads to success.

Learning Systems sits at the center of this shift, and is the academic core of the College of Lifetime Learning. This field brings together learning science, technology, and strategy to answer one critical question: How to design learning that works for all people, in real contexts, at scale? 

Built for today’s learners, this coursework serves future leaders who are ready to design and deploy effective learning environments and technologies that meet individual, community, and business needs across a lifetime. 

Knowledge of learning systems prepares individuals to contribute across several categories of employers:

  • Educational institutions
    Not just as faculty, but in instructional design and curricular development, online program development, continuing and professional education, workforce partnerships, institutional effectiveness, and leadership roles.
  • Corporate and enterprise learning firms
    Large companies with internal L&D or "corporate university" functions (for example, Amazon, Google, Deloitte, Accenture, or any Fortune 500 with a significant training and development operation).
  • Workforce development and government agencies
    Community colleges, workforce boards, apprenticeship programs, and state/federal agencies administering programs like the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).
