Thais Safe Carneiro graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Masters Degree in Laws (LLM) in 2017. After graduating from Pitt, she passed the New York Bar examination and continued to work as international lawyer (labor law, international contracts, development projects) and returned to the University of Pittsburgh as Director of Professional Graduate Programs to assist the School of Computing and Information to set up new professional graduate programs in 2022. 

In this role, Thais leads the development of professional graduate programs, including the fully online Pitt Master’s of Data Science, launched in 2024 in partnership with Coursera. She collaborates closely with instructional designers, faculty, and academic leadership to ensure programs are innovative, accessible, and aligned with institutional goals. 

Her work centers on expanding pathways into STEM by reducing barriers to entry, fostering academic inclusion for adult learners, and aligning professional education with the evolving needs of online students and the workforce.
